  • Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills,
  • Open Water Dives to review your skills and explore!

To enroll in Scuba Camp, you must be:

  • 10 years or older.
  • Be a comfortable swimmer.
  • Be in reasonably good health. (a medical release may be required for some students.)

The Fun Part

The fun part about this course is...well, just about all of it because learning to dive is incredible. You breathe underwater for the first time (something you'll never forget) and learn what you need to know to become a certified diver. During the course, you'll make five pool dives and four dives at Hudson Grotto under the supervision of your PADI Instructor.

During the course you'll also earn the Project Aware Specialty. In this specialty you'll begin learning about our underwater world and how we can protect it for the future.

The Scuba Gear You Use

At scuba camp , you learn to use basic scuba gear and standard accessories. The equipment you wear will be chosen by a SCUBA WEST Representative to ensure your comfort throughout the course.

The Learning Materials You Need

You'll begin your Scuba West Journey with home-study materials for the Open Water Diver course including book, video, eRDPML and logbook.

PADI's Open Water Diver materials cover what you need to know about basic scuba diving skills, terminology and safety procedures. For each concept you'll read a description and watch a video demonstration. Then you'll jump in the pool to practice these skills with your instructor.

In 2019, Scuba West offers 5 programs. One during spring break, and 4 during June and July. We limit the camp to only 8 divers. Students need to pre-register to begin their home study.
